Navarino Bay is a beautiful natural harbour, which is almost perfectly semi-circular in shape, although the main reason for visiting is to see the monuments dedicated to the famous battle. This is easily done in the summer months by joining a tour boat at Pylos. The Greeks, French, Russians, Italians and English all have dedicated monuments here.

Navarino castle (Paliokastro) is highly recommended, you will enjoy the wonderful panorama that unfolds in front of you, the view from Paliokastro hill is unique in all directions. The castle built in the late 16th century by the Turks was built to control the bay of Navarino.

While here, visit the Gialova Lagoon, a gorgeous sight, which is now part of the NATURA 2000 network. There have been 265 species of birds spotted here, a lot of which are protected. It is the last southerly stop for migratory birds.

The lagoon is alive with fish easily observed from the shore and makes an ideal feeding area for the birds. You will see herons and flamingos as well as rare breeds.
